OVERVIEW

AI powered resume building website application for job seekers to help improve their chances at landing a job interview

Predica is a staffing company aimed to help job seekers and company recruiters find the perfect candidate-job match. This project was a engineer-driven project to which I being a sole UX Designer was introduced into their development process.

Over the course of a month, I have worked towards adding UX Design as part of the product delivery pipeline, and scoping the project requirements for product's MVP launch.

Along with project scoping, I have also designed UI screens and collaborated with front-end and Lead developers of the team to understand the design implementation expectations and constriants.

PROBLEM

Motivation

AI powered tools are used to scan hundreds of resumes, this makes the chances of qualifying for the initial screening test a great challenge to all the job seekers today.

Today, the job market has a lot of job seekers with newly available professionals who got laid off during mass layoff season and fresh graduates graduating every six months. Thus, automation of the recruitment process is at its all-time high today and no one reads the resumes of hundreds of job applicants for one job position.

Hence, to pass this initial step of the recruitment process, keyword matching between the job applicant’s resume and the job description using ATS software is common among recruiters to validate keyword match and reject mass application at this stage.

PROBLEM

Why is resume building important to job seekers in today's job market?

Predica is a staffing company and comes across hundreds of job seekers on weekly basis.

Predica's consultants who scan job applications and phone screen candidates for their client's hiring positions discovered a gap between candidate's capabilities and their poor execution of marketing themselves via resumes. â€‹

APPROACH

Design goals

These goals are used as a guide to design the user experience of the product. They help in prioritizing user and business needs during the design process.

Ease of use

The product should be easy to use as this will help the users save time and be efficient

Convenience

The product is easily included the users' process of preparing job search materials.

Clear information

Direct and upfront display of information to help user focus on task completion rather than being confused and leaving the product.

APPROACH

MVP scope

For the MVP of this product, the business priority was to let the users use the keyword matching and the AI recommendations software. The user flow of the MVP focuses on just that and the user interface for implementing this particular technology. At the same time of designing this user interface, the developers were focused on refining the technology of these 2 features.

The job description is important input from the user hence, the user can either upload the job descriptions or paste the job description.

The keywords from the job description that are absent from the user's resume would be displayed. Only 5 keywords are displayed in the free access of the product, and the rest are blurred out.

SOLUTION

04 Paywall

I used an accent color different from primary and secondary color to make the paywall CTA standout. The information card and warning cards reflect status colors to let the user know what kind of information the content is even before hey have read the content.

SOLUTION

05 AI Recommendations

AI recommendations are bullet points that uses the missing keywords from the user's resume to help them come up with content to use the missing keywords. Two suggestions gives the user examples to mix and match ideas to write the bullet points to include the missing keyword in their resume.

SOLUTION

06 Email Me

Recommendations can be a lot of information, and in order to help the user refer to them easily, this feature was considered. The recommendations would be emailed to the user and toast message is used to provide success feedback to the user.

IMPACT

Next steps

The next feature that needs to be added after this user flow is login/ signup user flow and landing page to introduce this product.

These additional features will be useful to store user's previous resume scores to see how much they have improved, and this  will also inculcate a rewarding emotion for the users.

Landing page should cover how it works content to help users know what they are getting into before they use the product. This will also help increase lead generation by convincing users to signup to this product.
